Flashes Announce 2022 Season Schedule - Kent State Golden Flashes (2024)

Five home games including the 2022 Wagon Wheel showdown highlights the Golden Flashes' 2022 football schedule.

Kent State is coming off their first eastern division title since 2012 and their second bowl appearance in the FlashFAST era. It was a record-setting 2021 season as well as Kent State demolished the single-season program record for total offense. The Flashes put up 6,907 yards of offense in 2021, nearly 1500 yards better than the previous record set in 2012. They did it with a balanced attack, setting a program record for total rushing yards (3,482) and passing (3,425) and are poised to continue to re-write the record book in 2022.

The Flashes will make it two straight road trips out west, ending the 2021 campaign in Boise at the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl and opening the 2022 season in Seattle against the Washington Huskies. The Saturday, September 3rd contest will be the first between the two programs. Washington went 4-8 last season, and it will be the first contest for new Washington head coach Kalen Deboer.

The following week the Flashes head south to the Sooner state for their first ever meeting with Oklahoma on Saturday, September 10th. The Sooners went 11-2 last season and were victorious over Oregon in the Alamo Bowl. It's the second-straight game against a first-year head coach as it will be Brent Venables' second game on the sidelines as head coach of the Sooners.

The home opener follows for the Golden Flashes as they welcome in the Sharks out of Long Island University. LIU plays out of the Northeast Conference and is coming off a 2-8 season. The Sharks are no stranger to the MAC, having played at Miami last season, falling 35-7.

The non-conference wraps up as the Flashes head to Georgia to take on the reigning national champion Bulldogs on Saturday, September 24th. The two teams have met only once before back in September of 1998.

Ohio comes to town to start Mid-American Conference play on Saturday, October 1st. The Flashes went into Athens last year and knocked off the Bobcats 34-27 and will be looking for their first win over the Bobcats at home since 2012.

A trip to Oxford follows and a rematch of the de-facto east division title game last year with the Miami Redhawks on October 8th. Kent State knocked off Miami 48-47 last year in overtime on a dramatic pass break-up on Miami's two-point conversion attempt in overtime.

The Glass Bowl and the Toledo Rockets follow on October 15th. The Flashes last played the Rockets in 2019 in a 35-33 heartbreaking setback. Kent State will be looking for its first win in Toledo since the 1977 season.

The Wagon Wheel showdown rolls into town on Saturday, October 22nd. The Flashes have won the last three against the rival Zips including a 38-0 shutout at InfoCision Stadium last season. Kent State will look to extend their rivalry win streak to four, a feat that hasn't been accomplished since the Flashes won 10 straight from 1942 through 1954.

The MAC transitions into its infamous MACtion stretch of the season with Kent State having Saturday, October 29th off in preparation for their Tuesday, November 1st meeting with the Ball State Cardinals at Dix Stadium. The Flashes won a thrilling 41-38 showdown against Ball State in November of 2019, part of their four-game winning streak to close that season. Bowling Green welcomes in Kent State on Wednesday, November 9th. Kent State has won four-straight in the battle for the Anniversary Award including a 27-20 win at Dix Stadium last year.

Eastern Michigan comes to Dix Stadium for the home finale on Wednesday, November 16th. The cross-over series picks up after a one-year respite as the Flashes defeated Eastern 27-23 to start 2020. Kent State has won seven of the last nine against the Eagles dating back to 2004.

Kent State will flex back to Saturday to finish out the regular season traveling up to Buffalo and taking on the Bulls on Saturday, November 26th. The Flashes knocked off the Bulls 48-38 in a primetime game last season at Dix Stadium.

Season and single-game tickets will go on sale in a few weeks. Game times and television platforms will be announced by the Mid-American Conference at a later date.
