The Social Media Communications Specialist (Information Specialist II) supports the Supervisor of Web and Social Media Services in providing content development, training, and assistance for PWCS’ social media sites. Creativity, accuracy, and a commitment to teamwork are required for success in this position.
Hiring Range: $59,139 - $94,900/year
Essential Responsibilities
Work collaboratively with all stakeholders in Launching Thriving Futures.
Research, create, update, and curate articles, infographics, etc., reflecting division, school, employee, and student achievement and other strategic information for dissemination on pwcs.edu and other PWCS outlets.
Facilitate maintenance of the digital asset management system; select digital images and edit as needed for project support.
Create, update, and monitor content for PWCS social media sites, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and emerging channels; track and update PWCS presence on social media networks, and respond on behalf of PWCS in keeping with division policies and regulations, and consistent with messages and guidelines established by the Communications Department.
Produce and distribute daily news digests, including general community emergency messages without direct supervision in the absence of the Supervisor of Web and Social Media Services and the Director of Communications.
Provide training to web and social media managers in concert with, or in the absence of, the Supervisor of Web and Social Media Services.
Interact with PWCS employees and School Board members, as needed, to complete assigned projects.
Monitor and analyze web metrics to improve content and performance; maintain a database of web content to report on department outreach.
Edit articles submitted by employees for dissemination to social media channels and publication via PWCS channels.
Maintain resource and reference files as needed to research and write articles.
Manage communication publication projects and events, as assigned.
Complete other duties as assigned.

Writing content for various divisionwide communication avenues, such as Senior Action Leadership Bulletin, Admin Instant, the Communicator, The Scoop! and brochures/flyers
Support Communications Department through participation in community events
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Behaviors
High school diploma or GED; graduation from an accredited college or university preferred; three years of journalism, public relations, or social media communications experience is desirable, including experience writing and promoting web/social media news stories and demonstrated proficiency with social and emerging media; familiarity with desktop publishing software, publication design, communication, and marketing; and/or any combination of training providing the following knowledge and skills:
Ability to communicate fluently, clearly, and concisely in English, both orally and in writing.
Ability to create and edit information for web, social, and print media using Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, or Canva.
Knowledge of website content management systems; Windows operating system; processes and procedures required to operate and maintain websites.
Fluency with social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and emerging channels.
Ability to write accurately and persuasively within strict constraints of social media and/or other channels.
Ability to communicate tactfully and courteously with students, parents, staff, and the general public.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.
Ability to coordinate projects, maintain a schedule of work, and perform under deadlines.
Ability to conduct research, interpret findings, and prepare reports on education issues.
Ability to analyze and provide recommendations on data from social media and other web analytics.
