In Texas, it is generally legal to make a right turn on a red light, provided specific conditions are met. According to Texas Transportation Code § 544.007, a driver facing a steady red signal may make a right turn after coming to a complete stop and yielding the right-of-way to any vehicle or pedestrian within the intersection or approaching the intersection. However, this rule does not apply if a sign is posted prohibiting a right turn on a red light. The Data could not be more clear on the relationship between speed and crash survivability for Vulnerable Road Users. At 20MPH a VRU has a significant chance of surviving, however at 25MPH the injury severity scale starts to tip the wrong way. On roadways which vehicles intermix with VRU’s we need the flexibility where appropriate to apply the lower and safer speed limits. While NYS has a long history of upholding high standards and being a leader in traffic safety they now need to step up to the plate and pass Sammy”s law. NYC must have the right to apply safer speeds for their local neighborhood streets where conditions warrant. #Safety #visionzero #roadtozero
